INTRODUCTION
Ofsted 2014:
Clavering Primary School has ‘high expectations of their pupils and want them to do their best. Pupils respond to these expectations and typically try their hardest to rise to the challenges set for them.’
‘Teachers plan interesting lessons which enthuse pupils.’
‘The curriculum is broad and balanced and caters very well for the individual needs of pupils, particularly in relation to developing their literacy and numeracy skills. There are excellent opportunities for pupils to engage in a range of additional activities and clubs and pupils appreciate the opportunities to go on school visits and the residential visits.’
Pupils ‘make good progress in their knowledge, understanding and skills so that, by the end of Key Stage 2 they reach standards in reading, writing and mathematics that are above average.’
Dear parents, carers and children,
At Clavering Primary School we believe we have a curriculum that gets our children off to a wonderful start on their educational journey!
This section of the Clavering website is focused on the Clavering Curriculum and provides an overview of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the Clavering Curriculum for children in Years 1 to 6. There are also brief sections on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development and International Learning at Clavering.
The Clavering Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning and personal growth and development.
It includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of additional opportunities that the school organises in order to enrich the experience of our children. Check out the ever-increasing 'Extra Curricular' section of our school website to find out more about this!
The Clavering Curriculum also includes the ‘hidden curriculum’, or what our children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. Clavering Primary School aims to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their true potential.
To provide an overview for children, parents and other family members, I have attached the curriculum documents for Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 which provide an overview of the different topics that children will be studying in each year group during this academic year.
If you have any questions about our curriculum, please speak to your teacher/your child’s teacher or, alternatively, feel free to contact me at any time.
I hope you are as excited about the Clavering Curriculum as I am!
Best wishes,
Mr McAvoy
